If your fridge smells bad then you are probably desperate to find an easy way to get rid of that smell. Opening the door and being hit with a bad smell is definitely terrible especially when you are hungry and all you want is to take out food, heat it up, and sit down to eat lunch or dinner.
But don’t let that worry you too much. In general, smelly fridges are very common because most people don’t deep clean them as often as necessary. No one really has the time to empty the entire fridge, clean it then put everything back in there, right? But this is extremely important and you should never postpone cleaning this appliance. After all, it’s where you store food – and it should be hygienic and spotless at all times. That way you will not only avoid bad smells but also possible food poisoning because bacteria are known for spreading super quick!
You Need To Deep Clean The Fridge!
There really is no way to avoid this step. If your fridge smells bad then you need to immediately clean it. Unplug it then take out all the food. Take the time to go through the food and throw out anything that has started to go bad or has expired. Make it a habit to often check what is expired and throw it immediately.
Then prepare your cleaner. I like to use vinegar. I just simply pour it in a spray bottle, spray the entire fridge with it then wipe with a cloth.
If there are any stains, I like to sprinkle baking soda on top of the affected areas then spray the vinegar and let it sit for a few minutes. Both ingredients will create a fizzing which will loosen up the impurities. Then simply wipe with a cloth or a sponge!
And once I am done with the cleaning, I like to spray the fridge with a disinfectant or rubbing alcohol so I can disinfect everything. After all, cleaning and disinfecting are two different things. I use the baking soda and vinegar to clean the surface, and the rubbing alcohol to disinfect and make sure the fridge is free of any bacteria!
And then just put back everything in the fridge and turn it on again!
The Fridge Still Smells Bad?
If you deep cleaned the appliance but you notice that it still smells bad, I recommend you pour baking soda in two or three bowls then place them in the fridge for a few days. Baking soda really is an amazing ingredient to use because it absorbs all sorts of odours – exactly what you need!
