Never Clean These 5 Things With Vinegar

Cleaning with vinegar can be amazing – you save money, you don’t use cleaners that contain harsh chemicals and you rarely experience allergies while still being able to leave your home spotless.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of things you shouldn’t clean with vinegar because you might damage them. But if you are at the beginning of your “natural ingredients” cleaning then you might not be aware of them which will cause you a lot of headaches and stress. This is exactly why I have combined all of them in this article – so that you don’t have to worry!

Here Are The 5 Things You Shouldn’t Clean With Vinegar

– Stone Floor Tiles

A lot of people have stone floor tiles in their homes – and they add a lot of elegance, however, they shouldn’t be cleaned with vinegar, ammonia, or even lemon. Why? All of these products are acidic and will leave the stone dull-looking.

– Granite/ Marble Countertops

If you have granite or marble countertops then it is necessary to stay away from using vinegar. It might be tempting because almost all recipes for an all-purpose cleaner contain vinegar but you should avoid it at all cost!

You can safely replace the vinegar with rubbing alcohol – another great way to both clean and disinfect your countertops!

– Hardwood Floors

In most cases, using vinegar to clean hardwood floors will damage the finish – and the last thing we all want is to damage our expensive wooden floors, right?

Also, note that you shouldn’t use vinegar to clean any wooden furniture – so if you have a wooden table skip on the vinegar!

– Knives

Never clean your kitchen knives with vinegar because the acidity will damage the edges. Instead, simply use hot soapy water!

– When Mixed With Bleach

The last thing I wanted to add to my list is to never use vinegar after or before using bleach. You shouldn’t do it because it’s quite dangerous since a toxic chlorine gas will be released which causes irritation to the eyes, throat, and lungs.

How To Clean Your Granite Countertop?

If the countertops in your kitchen are granite than you know how hard it is to find the right cleaner. And if you know me then you are aware of the fact that I do not like to use a commercial cleaner, however, most homemade cleaners shouldn’t be applied on granite.

For example, vinegar will easily damage your granite countertops – and most DIY recipes out there contain vinegar.

I must admit that I used to be so afraid of damaging mine that I used liquid soap and warm water to clean them. And while there is nothing wrong with doing this there were still times that I wanted something stronger. Something that will be able to remove all the impurities as well as disinfect the countertops.

This made me research and try out different cleaning methods until I find the right one – the one that is powerful enough to clean and disinfect while it’s still gentle and won’t damage the surface.

Here Is How To Clean Your Granite Countertops!

Thankfully, you don’t need a lot of ingredients. Simply mix 1/4 teaspoon of liquid soap, 1/4 cup of rubbing alcohol with 2 1/2 cups of water. After you mix everything very well you need to pour it in a spray bottle so that you can easily use the cleaner as well as store it.

Whenever I use this cleaner I always wipe it with a microfiber cloth so that I am left with a streak-free surface, however, I usually spray it and let it sit for about 2 minutes before I wipe it. Why do I do this? Due to the rubbing alcohol, the cleaner has disinfecting properties. As you probably know you need to wait for the disinfectant to work before you wipe it away. If you immediately wipe after spraying than it wouldn’t be able to disinfect the surface properly!

The Best Toilet Tank Cleaner Recipe You Should Try!

When you are cleaning your bathroom the last thing on your mind is how to clean the toilet tank. In fact, you probably have never even cleaned it, right?

Well, I am here to tell you that it is time to do this cleaning chore! Don’t worry though – it’s not hard at all. I even make these bombs which I simply place in the tank. Yes, you don’t need to add another cleaning chore you hate to your list. There is no need to scrub the tank or waste your time cleaning it – these bombs will do everything for you!

How often should you clean your toilet tank?

You will be relieved when you hear how often you need to clean the toilet tank – twice a year! I didn’t make it up – many plumbers say that twice a year is enough to maintain everything clean and avoid any problems with your toilet!

How to make your own toilet tank cleaner?

In order to make those bombs, I talked about you need to prepare four ingredients – citric acid, baking soda, liquid soap, and your favourite essential oil!

Start off with mixing 1/4 cup of citric acid, 1/2 cup of baking soda and 10 drops of the essential oil you decided to use.

Then it’s time to add the liquid soap. Slowly add 1/2 cup of it while you are stirring the mixture.

Once the mixture is ready it’s time to press it into ice trays or silicone moulds. You need to let them dry for 24 hours before they are ready to be used!

How To Use Them?

All you need to do is drop one bomb in the toilet tank. The cleaner will start to fizz for a few minutes – let it sit at least 15 minutes after the fizzing has stopped!

Then just flush and you are done!

What Is Causing Your Drains To Clog And How To Fix Them?

Unfortunately, clogged drains happen to everyone – no matter how careful you are! I must admit – it’s very annoying and frustrating.

I wanted to talk a bit about what is causing drains to clog and, of course, how to fix this problem! There is one very common reason which everyone has experienced at least a few times in their lives which is:

– Hair and soap scum

Hair and soap scum is the most common cause of clogged drains. The hair and the soap scum builds up until one day it starts to restrict the flow of the water.

If your drain is clogged then see whether you see hair in it. If that is the case then pull the hair out with your fingers.

Can you prevent clogged drains?

You certainly can, especially if the hair is the problem. The simple solution is to buy hair catchers. I recommend you install hair catchers in the drains because they really work and will make sure the hair doesn’t go down the drain and clog it. They are inexpensive and will save you a lot of time and headaches!

Also, from time to time you can take some simple steps to make sure the drain is clear. I like to pour boiling water down the drain.

I also like using baking soda and vinegar. I just pour some baking soda then follow that with a little bit of vinegar. We all know that baking soda reacts when mixed with vinegar. This is why this method is so powerful – both ingredients will start to fizz. Once I do that I usually place a rag on top of the drain and leave the baking soda and vinegar for an hour. Then I remove the rag and pour hot water down the drain!

Remove mould and mildew following this easy recipe!

Dealing with mould and mildew is an absolute nightmare! It seems as though it’s impossible to get rid of and no matter how hard you are trying – it always comes back.

I have had a lot of problems in my bathroom due to mould and mildew, however, recently I decided that enough is enough!

I had been using bleach for a few months as a way to get rid of the mould and it seemed to be working for a very short period of time but then things got worse. After talking to a specialist I understood that bleach is not a good option – in fact, it’s a terrible option. The bleach removes only the surface mould which means that it will eventually come back 10 times worse.

So how can you deal with mould and mildew?

After speaking to that specialist I decided that I need to find an inexpensive natural disinfectant which is powerful enough to deal with the mould yet is not toxic or harmful to my health.

Everyone that knows me is aware of the fact that I avoid commercial products and I have always preferred using natural ingredients which is why I was so determined to find something that works – a DIY recipe!

I did a lot of research and I came to a conclusion – I needed to use vinegar!

Here is what I did!

In a spray bottle, I mixed two cups of white vinegar, a teaspoon of tea tree oil, and 10 drops of lavender essential oil.

I would spray the mould and mildew directly with this mixture.

How to clean and disinfect sponges?

A common cleaning tool that everyone has in their home and uses on regular basis is the sponge. They are great and will help you with cleaning the dishes, removing stains from your kitchen countertops, cleaning your appliances, and even your bathroom.

However, one huge downfall is that they get dirty fast and they are a breeding ground for germs. If you don’t replace your old sponges or clean and disinfect them often you will spread dangerous bacteria all over your home which is definitely something you don’t want to do, right?

Well, you can’t avoid replacing them – this is for sure but you can delay this by cleaning and disinfecting them!

Here is how to do that!

Soak your sponges in bleach

This is a great way to get rid of any bacteria in your sponges. You need to dilute the bleach with a lot of water and soak them in there for 10 minutes. Then rinse it very well!

Soak your sponges in vinegar

Not everyone would want to use bleach so a great alternative is vinegar. Soak your sponges in a bowl filled with white vinegar and leave them there for a few hours. You can even leave them overnight!

Then squeeze out the vinegar and rinse very well!

Allow your dishwasher to do all of your work!

Yes, you can place your sponges in the dishwasher! The hot water and the detergent will do a great job in cleaning and disinfecting.

You can even throw them in the washing machine!

Yes, you can wash them with your clothes.

Learn how to determine whether your rug is dirty and how to clean it!

Your favourite rug getting dirty – it’s an inevitable story. But if you want it to look good for a long time then you must take proper care of it.

Vacuuming your rug

Vacuuming it on a daily basis is crucial since that way you would be able to capture the bigger debris from penetrating deep all the way to the base where they are harder to be removed. But you need to keep in mind that your vacuum cleaner is not enough. This shouldn’t be the only way you maintain your rug clean! Why? Dirt, dust, and all sorts of other impurities will land on your rug and will penetrate deep – all the way to the base. Your vacuum cleaner is not powerful enough to extract them which will result in damage, dirty patches, discolouration, etc.

How can you determine whether your rug needs a deep cleaning?

There is a very simple trick out there that you can use to determine exactly how dirty the rug is and whether you need to set aside your vacuum cleaner for a little and focus on deep cleaning it using more powerful methods.

Rub your fingers on the rug in a circular motion for a few seconds and see whether your fingers have dirt on them. If that is the case then it is time for some deep cleaning.

How to clean your rug on your own?

There are many cleaning companies that provide Rug Cleaning out there but if you want to save some money and do it on your own then here is how!

Before we start I need to say one thing – be careful when cleaning your rug because it is made out of very delicate fabric which can easily be damaged!

– Start with the usual – vacuuming the rug. As I previously said, your vacuum cleaner is a great way to remove larger pieces of debris and impurities. Vacuum the back of the rug as well!

– Continue with a rug cleaner of your choice. There are some great options out there. If you want you can also use soapy warm water. Before you start cleaning the whole rug I advise you to test it in a corner or a small area and see whether your rug will react to it. If nothing happens then you are good to go!

– Grab a soft-bristled brush and gently scrub the surface with the cleaner/ soapy water.

– Rinse the rug. If possible, take it outside and use a hose in order to rinse it. You can also do that in the shower or in your bathtub.

– Allow the rug to air-dry completely. This step requires patience since it might take a day or two.

Dusting 101: All of the tips you need

There are so many cleaning chores that you need to do on a regular basis and dusting is definitely on top of the list.

But there are so many things you can do to prevent dust which will make your life so much easier. These tips I am about to give you will completely change your dusting game! How am I so sure? Because I know they changed mine!

Always clean top to bottom

One of the oldest tricks in the book is to start cleaning from the top and working your way to the bottom. This means that you always need to clean the highest surfaces in the room first and work your way to the floor, of course, leaving the floor last.

Just think about it – why would you clean your floor first and then dust off your kitchen table? All of the impurities that are sitting on the surface of that table will fall straight to the floor you just cleaned!

Change air filters on a regular basis

You always need to make sure that your air filters are functioning properly because otherwise they will get clogged with all sorts of debris, dirt, and dust.

Usually, it is recommended that they last anywhere between a month to three months.

Place an entrance mat

Probably the smartest way to reduce the amount of dirt and dust in your home is to simply use an entrance mat. In fact, I recommend you even have two – one outside the front door and one inside the front door.

That way they will be able to catch the dirt and dust on your shoes without you bringing them into your home.

And make sure you clean and vacuum them often.

Change your sheets often

Do you know the amount of dust that your sheets are absorbing? That is why you need to change them at least once a week!

Consider buying an air purifier

These amazing machines are designed to catch dust. I can’t recommend them enough!

Don’t forget to deep clean your upholstery

Your upholstery, as well as your carpet, absorb a huge percentage of the dirt and dust in your home. That is why it is recommended you have them professionally deep cleaned twice a year. Everything from your curtains, your couch, even your mattress are packed with dust.

Here are some amazing cleaning tips you should try

We all know that nowadays there is a hack for everything especially when it is cleaning related. Who wouldn’t want to know some of the most useful cleaning tricks out there which will not only make the cleaning process a lot easier but it will reduce the time you need to do it?

– Clean your dishwasher

It’s obvious that we need to clean our appliances – and the ones that do the cleaning for us are no exceptions. Dishwashers usually have food and grime build up on the interior so it’s important that you check after each dishwashing cycle if there are any remaining bits of food stuck. If you notice some then you immediately should remove them which will keep the dishwasher clean and will prevent any nasty future odors.

– Restore your shower pressure

The best way to make sure everything in your home is working properly is to clean it. For example, you can easily unclog your shower and restore the pressure by cleaning it. Mix equal parts of vinegar and water, pour it in a plastic bag and place the showerhead in there. Leave it there for a couple of hours then remove the showerhead, rinse it, and your shower is as good as new.

– Clean the shower curtain

If you have plastic or vinyl shower curtains then you can easily clean them by throwing them in the washing machine. Please, add a couple of towels in there as well.

– Make a homemade glass cleaner

I prefer making my own cleaning solutions – not only am I saving money that way but I know exactly what the ingredients are. No toxic or harsh chemicals. Only natural items. For example, I make my own glass cleaner by mixing water, white vinegar, rubbing alcohol, and essential oils so that it smells really good.

The easiest way to clean your fridge

When it comes to kitchen appliances – please do not neglect them. Cleaning them is of huge importance to your health. The amount of dangerous bacteria that are in your kitchen is ridiculous. Disinfecting and cleaning on a regular basis should be a priority. Of course, deep-cleaning kitchen appliances is not something that you are going to do every day. But every couple of months you should pay attention to them.

In this article, I am going to help you clean your fridge in no time.

– Start cleaning the outside

We will get to the inside of your fridge. But for starters, focus on the outside. There are a lot of germs, dirt, dust, and other unpleasant things on the surface that you should remove.

– Prepare for the cleaning

Now since you are done wiping the outside, you need to unplug your fridge and take out everything that’s inside. Empty it. Take your time – throw foods that are expired or unwanted, drinks, etc.

– It’s time to clean the inside

Remove all the parts that you can – shelves, drawers, etc. Put them in the sink and wash them with hot soapy water. Not only will this remove grime, leftover food, and dirt but it will kill all of the germs.

– Reorganize everything

So now that you have cleaned your fridge and it is once again fresh and spotless it’s time to be organized as well. Organize everything back however you like. Maybe section vegetables and fruits to be on one shelve, meat and cheese to be on other shelves, etc. Only keep one thing in mind – when it’s organized it will give you a clean and fresh feel at all times. It doesn’t matter how many hours you have been scrubbing your fridge before organizing it – if you throw everything inside and make a huge mess then it will still look dirty.
